Our School frieze to mark National Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th. January.

The butterflies symbolise the loss of children’s lives during not only the Holocaust but also all acts of genocide. Primary schools are encouraged as part of art or nature lessons to get all children to make a butterfly. These butterflies should be put on display at participating schools during January.

PTA Next Meeting. 8th.April at 7.30pm

In order to celebrate the start of the Capital of Culture Year, the King David Primary School will open 2008 with a focus on the history of the school and the Jewish Community over the past 200 years. We will look at resources detailing the history of the school from its inception in 1840 to the present day, and the future new build; we will use census records to find information about children who attended the school in 1901; we will interview community members about the old Hebrew school in Hope Place, and we may visit the building. We will also interview community members who taught at or attended King David School when it first opened. We will be inviting community members into school; the children will also visit Stapely Home.

We will be developing a web-based history of the school using the archives at the Jewish Resource Centre and the Local History Centre at Liverpool Central Library, taping / videoing interviews / using online resources (e.g. census data) and showing sections of the recently produced ‘Chicken Soup and Scouse’.

We will also look at other famous institutions, including Lewis’s Department Store.

We hope that this will give children an understanding of how the Jewish community in Liverpool has grown with the City, what it has contributed to the city, and how the city has supported the community.

We are looking forward to the Treasures Project, which we will link in with the Capital of Culture launch in school.

We are also working with a school in Israel – HaEla school in Modi’in; we hope to involve them in some way, possibly through a web link and sharing the outcomes of our research.

Exerpt from Ofsted press release:

The report found that "standards at the end of Year 6 have been consistently above average for the last five years. This in part is due to the effective management and rigorous analysis of data carried out by senior managers to identify areas for development. Science is just one example of where teachers have identified specific focus areas to build upon, leading this year to a staggering 80% of pupils in Year 6 reaching a higher standard than that expected nationally." Children's' work in art and music is also of a high standard. The excellent school choir and orchestra regularly perform both within the school and beyond to great acclaim and even in the early weeks of the school year, classroom walls were adorned with bright and festive artwork.
